Last Autumn, we went on a quest to find one worthy key worker couple that have worked to serve us all throughout the pandemic, with the intention to gift them their dream wedding on our York Lawns, worth £20,000.
The incredibly worthy winners, police officer Rob and his paramedic fiancée Paige, came to Regent’s just before Valentine’s Day to take some photos to celebrate their engagement. It was an uncharacteristically beautiful winter’s day – the sun was shining, and the grounds were looking their finest.
We were drawn to the couple due not only due to their tireless efforts to keep the city safe, but their unique love story, meeting on an emergency job at a chicken shop just down the road from us.
Rob Wilkins, the groom, said: “We are so grateful to Regent’s for recognising the work undertaken by the emergency services and giving away such a fabulous prize. We feel very lucky that the not-so romantic tale of our meeting in a chicken shop during an incident helped secure the wedding! Although there has been a lot of media interest in the story, I’m not sure we will be choosing chicken for our meal – there are lots of other lovely things to try.”
Events Manager, Rafael Azzopardi, said: “It is a real pleasure working with Rob and Paige, who are worthy winners and so much in love. I was very much taken with their story of meeting during a fracas at a late-night takeaway shop. It is a real London love story. I am also glad that we made the decision to recognise the work undertaken by essential workers and give something back to one of the many couples whose wedding plans were disrupted by the pandemic. We are all looking forward to the happy day.”
We are very excited to be hosting weddings again this summer, both on our four-acre plot of beautiful outside space, and in our many indoor event spaces.
